Default TACH Question

I have a 2004 F150 STX comes with no tach. My question is this. Can I get a speedo with a tach and it work? Is the truck wired for a tach even though it didn't come with one from the factory?

Get an Edge programmer with the pod...it will give you added performance and a Tach..a long with several other engine measuring options.

Either a gauge type programmer (Evolution or PHP Gryphon) if you want the tuning, or a monitor such as the Scangauge II that just shows parameters and does no tuning.

I had the same question before, I have a 2004 STX as well. It does have the wires and everything and you actually have a tach and don't even know it! On the digital screen odometer you have on the bottom right you can make it show your rpms here's how. 1. Turn your key so the battery is on. 2. Hold in the trip log button for a few seconds until the screen changes. Keep clicking the button and go through the different readings until you get to the tach. It might say "RPMs" I can't remember. 3. Now turn your truck on and there you go, you have a tach. Only thing is, when you turn off the battery it goes back to the odometer setting and got to do it all over again and when it is on you can't see the odometer but hey, put is what it is. Hope that helps, I thought it was pretty cool when I figured it out.

You can swap gauge clusters. Look up Gauge Cluster Swap by Bucko

For you, your best cluster swap will be one out of an XL or STX that had a manual transmission. Those trucks came with a cluster/tach. All your current functions will work with this swap (interior lights, all the lower right display functions). Only thing you'll want to do is have the mileage flashed to match your existing cluster.

Do a search. I wrote a hole lot about this.

And welcome aboard!

Great. I thought it could probably be done if the wiring was there. So now. Bucko. How can I find your old posting on this?

So I did this and it came up with CAL and my compas went nuts, now it is wrong. How do I fix without getting my manual out?

Woah, well what exactly did it do? Did you get to the RPMs or what? Be specific, I've never had that problem before.

all I did was hold the reset button in while I was filling gas. I have a tach, I was just curios. I had no options but CAL.
