after reading some of the other post a person needs to arm thereself with knowledge of what rights they have when going to a dealership. Ford cannot LEGALLY deny you warranty work because of the brand of filter you use... if it is rated and meets the same ratings as oem brand then it cannot LEGALLY void a warranty.. Just like gm tried to tell me my warranty was void if i put 20" rims on my 07 silverado... I told them that unless they could prove that the rims hurt my truck that they would pay for it and smile while they were fixing it. I had a 3 way conference call with gm and the dealer and ask gm why there are so worried about my truck having 20's on it but it is okay for me to pull 6300 lbs with it... which one is worse... gm told the dealer to fix my truck if need be.

My dad and I have used royal purple and wix filters no additives. Got a 97 grand marquis with 274,500 miles and still holds power like new and goes the 3,000 mile gap w/ adding oil. Got a 99 windstar just passed the 200,000 miles! Im sold!

royal purple and amsoil are very very close in quality. Where I live i can get amsoil cheaper than i can get royal purple is one reason why I went with amsoil. But truly either oil is not real expensive in terms of a good synthetic.

Ford only uses 5W-20 because it saves gas. I personally don't think they care a bit whether it's best for the trucks. They are just buying all the time they can in the face of more and more stringent regulations on the fuel economy of their vehicles. They are simply making it as cheap and painless as possible for themselves regardless of whether the engines need this oil or not. I do think these F150s are good trucks, but Ford is a very bad company to have to ask to stand up behind their products and advise you of your best interests because I don't think they care at all. And personally, I think management is just trying to make money however possible with no regard whatsoever to the customers buying their vehicles. Ford has treated me like sh*t and I always see alterior motives in everything they do that rarely benefits the customer. They had the nerve to tell me on one occasion that I should stop complaining and wait for a recall. That's pathetic. That said, I think I will be changing to 10W-30 pretty soon.
