How would I know if my starter is going bad

 

One way..... Next time it doesn't start, take a hammer and knock the starter a few times. If it hard to reach, the end of a long wooden handle will work too. If it starts after that... it's the starter for sure.

 

Ha.. Any real ways to know

 

It will crank weak and slow.

 

Will it act like the batterie is dead?

 

It will click sometimes, but click once whereas a battery will cause a rapid clicking. And yes, tapping the starter WILL make it turn over if it's just starting to go bad.....he wasn't kidding you.

Really it seems like that wouldnt work sorry and I don't know what the battery post posted again but I had my battery checked and they sai it was fine but the truck won't start sometimes unless I jump it does anyone have his problem

 

Will a bad starter send codes

 

No a bad starter won't send codes. A bad starter will turn real slow or grind. If you have a multi meter then measure the voltage at the starter.
