Not just squirrels fellers- groundhogs too.
Neat story- a buddy of mine had a dent side F-250 4x4, he bought a newer truck and parked the older truck down over the rise. While he was sitting on the front porch, off and on during the year,he would see groundhogs running under the old truck and standing on their hind legs. Curious, he walked down and looked under the old truck- the groundhogs had eaten every inch of insulation off the wiring!- he said there was nothing but bare copper running in the wire holders!

You should read the game laws. Squirrels are a GAME animal! I’ve hunted squirrels for many years and have nothing against squirrel hunting. There are (in most states) two squirrel hunting seasons per year. Being a GAME animal, they are also somewhat protected out of season.
There is also something called Wanton Waste! When you intentionally kill an animal and leave it to rot. You have just committed Wanton Waste.
Both killing a game animal out of season and Wanton Waste are both offenses that the Dept of Fish and Game will fine you for. In some cases, even confiscate your weapon and revoke your right to possess a hunting license. The fact that you have this attitude towards wildlife tells me that you don’t know the laws so you most likely DONT even have a license to hunt.
Intentionally killing a game animal out of season, killing a game animal without a valid hunting license are both considered POACHING!
As far as poisoning game, domestic pets, shooting the neighborhood pets, etc., YOU OPENED THE DOOR TO THE RIDICULE!

well I always thought dukedt442's responses were him kidding...I would never put antifreeze out for any animals just because there are so many good animals around and I also thought that some time ago a battering agent was added to coolant/antifreeze to keep pets from trying the kool-aide...

shooting squirrels would be difficult as I live near a corner in a suburb of Chicago and I'm sure some neighbors would make the "man with a gun" call in to the local constabulary...

I have parked the truck off my driveway and on the street a bit away from the scene of the crime until I can get those hoses changed (RockAuto shows after the 1st of the year delivery) and I had used a cloth soaked in ammonia as I had read that some pest animals believe this is the urine of a predator and look elsewhere...daily checks of the truck's under hood area shows the squirrel may have gone elsewhere to build his winter home...

hanks for the responses...even the humorous ones...

Bill

Hey Bill;
Another thing that works quite well is to take dryer sheets (Bounce, etc.) and tie them around hoses, wiring harnesses in a few places under your hood. We think they smell nice but wildlife and even dogs and cats tent to find them highly offensive! Usually does the trick!

I believe it was South Main Auto that said the reason for animals having a taste for wiring is because the insulation is soy based, so it tastes good to animals.

Squirrels are rodents they create a lot of damage to homes and vehicles. They even chew the lead boots off sewer stacks on the roof creating leaks . They tend to get crazy after ingesting lead . Mostly you can treat them like rats with fluffy tails . I have had to do a lot of repairs because of them . No I won't shoot someones pets unless they kill my chickens etc .
I would not leave anti freeze out for them but have put rat bait in my engine compartments . They are very persistent you can't scare them off . I had to replace $1000 of screen that they ruined climbing all over it .Neighbors had the same .
They almost burnt down my one house buy chewing thru 3/4 thick board ,nesting babies ate the 120v wires bare off three 12/2 wires in attic .
You have a right to protect your property . They are not harmless .

So just so there's a dialog of what happened here. A user promoted the poisoning of animals. When called out on it because poison could affect other animals, he suggested that shooting domestic pets was a better alternative. He was given a warning, he was advised to not dispute or reply to it. Instead of taking the small slap on the wrist, he aired his grievances to the world. He was provided a 3 day ban for his efforts. Instead of just taking that punishment, he decided to make a new user account and come back. For his persistence in "working around the punishment", he was given a permanent ban by the administrators. This is over and done with and I'm leaving the thread open for your sake. If he continues to come back, he will continue to be banned, that's it.

Please carry on.

I don't believe in poison..... you can't control who eats it and then who eats the poisoned animal.
I have found neighborhood cats, Hawks, and Owls that died from eating poisoned mice !
Please use a trap, and a live one at that......
If you feel the need to exterminate the "vermin" ay least then you will know what you are killing...
And not causing harm to the rest of the wildlife and domesticated animals in your area !
