Raw peanuts make a great bait. Sprinkle a few outside the door, and put a pile inside the main trap.
I use a live trap but only put it out during the day as I am afraid of catching a skunk during the night. I use sunflower seeds for bait and haul the critters
at least 15 miles away to maybe keep them from wandering back home. I also have some devices from Amazon under the hood of my
vehicles for when they set outside. I have experienced damage to my vehicles in the past. The device is supposed to be emitting a high
frequency sound but they also have alternating flashing LED lights. I suspect the lights might do more deterring than the sound. Left side of engine bay by intake. Both devices wired to battery posts.
I've had a car parked on my grounds I didn't use so much, suddenly get all sort of codes, took it to the dealership, then found an injector wire eaten thru - my son had a similar issue, living in a rural area is great, sometimes - those squirrels made a home in my garage / shop ceiling - they chewed thru the wood and made a home, I could hear them scurrying around when I go into the shop, dam rodents - they eat everything
I put put for the birds even though I put out corn just to keep them away
I live on a cul de sac in suburbia, and have grey squirrels all over my neighborhood. Oddly, I'll find one dead lying in my backyard 4-6 times per year. They look perfectly healthy...no wounds, good weight, shiny coats. I wonder if they're being poisoned?

I hope not. IMO, poisoning should be outlawed. It not only kills the target varmint, it kills others as well, like household pets like dogs/cats. It's a very lazy azz and narrow minded way to get rid of vermin.
There are traps out there, some kill, some live, plus a .22 is pretty effective too. I live in the middle of the woods, squirrels all over the place, plus mice, and have never had a problem with them, I do have two dogs, and there's feral cats around too.
