Default sparkplug change

Got my plugs changed today! All eight came out clean. I had 76,000 miles on them, and they looked pretty good. The cost was 430.00 out the door.

That's great, man. I'm at 73k and have been considering getting them done now just to try and avoid the breaking issue at higher mileage. I haven't shopped for prices though. Is that a decent deal?

I'm not bad mouthing anyone, this is just a general observation. Since when did we all get accustomed/happy paying $250-$450 for CHANGING PLUGS?!?!? I understand the problems we have with our 5.4 engines with plugs breaking and could see paying those prices if we had some break, but when NONE break. I changed mine myself and the plugs cost me $80 so to be fair I could see up to $150 if none broke, but $430, no way. Seems that the shops are ripping us off and using the possibility of plugs breaking as a reason to do it. Just a little rant, I'm done now.

Where did you guys get your plugs changed? The dealership or just a local shop? I need to get mine done because at wide-open-throttle from a dead stop at 25-35mph the truck shutters and feels like its missing but goes away at 40mph. also will do the fuel filter while its in for plugs. Not trying to thread jack, just asking where to get them done? My dealership said $400 to start, and $100 extra for every plug that breaks....

So if the plugs were $80 you paid $350 per hour for labor. I'm a shade tree mechanic and did mine in 45 minutes(none broke). These prices are ridiculous IMO. I've got a guy at church that owns his own shop and does ALL 5.4L spark plug changes for our local dealership. He says that he's never broken more than 5 and never took more than 2.5 hrs. So based on what he says 5.4 L owners are being raped by local mechanics. I'm glad you got it done, it just seems like we are being willfully taken advantage of!

i hear what you are saying i went to three garage and they would not even look at me after i told them i wanted my plugs changed, but i feel $250 or $450 is not all bad considering some have been charged $1200 to $ 1500, but each to his own,

I know that 450 seems like a lot of money, but when you figure all the time it takes soaking them, cracking, then soaking then removing them. It is quite a bit of work. Don't get me wrong, I wasnt happy to pay 430.00, just relieved i guess.

Glad I done mine myself. Once I realized the job could cost $350-$1500. Lucky for me none broke and everything went super smooth. Plus I only spent about $150 on the plugs and the broken plug remover.
