Default Sound System Question

I just installed a JL 13tw5 in my 08 F-150. I have a JBL 1000 watt amp pushing it. The problem is that it just seems weak. My buddy has the same set up in his truck and his slams. Only difference is my amp is older. He suggested that my box was to big for the sub. The dimensions of the box are, Width 20.00" - Depth 8.00" - Height 15.25". His box is nearly half the size in comparison. I always thought the more air space the sub had in the box the better it would sound.

Could it be the box is too big, or could the amp be the problem?

What kind of box do you have? sealed, ported, vented? that can change the sound completley.

Boxes can be too big but those dimensions dont seem overly large especially for a sealed box. What about the amp, do you have the gain turned up? What about the head unit, do you have the low's turned up etc? On my pioneer there are literally like 6 different ways to adjust the bass and when I figured those out I really got my system banging.

x2, 1000w should be enough to give you a head ache every time you turn it up

There's a "stereo/audio" forum on this site; there may be more veiwing for questions like this.
