Should a muffler rust out this quick?
I havent had my truck for long. When I got it, I knew the muffler was pretty rusted, but I liked the sound. Probably from a very thin wall of metal because of all the rust haha. Either way, the truck has 70,000 km (43500 miles). I cant comprehend why a muffler would rot out that quickly.
Well today the tailpipe finally broke free from the muffler. She's much louder now. So I need an exhaust fix. I don't want to go all out. Might just put a different muffler on because all the other pipes aren't rusted out. I like SISO, no dual exhaust for me.
I need some advice for if these pipes should be replaced. Also, looking for a SISO muffler that has a tone that will let you know its not stock, but also not wake the neighbours when I start it in the morning. Thanks!

Thanks everyone... I figured it was aftermarket because it sounded good. I didnt know if that was just leaking, or if it was a flowmaster.. i dont know what the stock muffler looks like.
The pipes look to have a lot of wall left despite the surface rust. Do you think I can get by with just replacing the muffler and leaving the pipes? The pipes definatly look better than the muffler

Looks like you have plenty of meat on the end of the pipe to weld to, so I can't see why not... Head to the local muffler shop and have them weld one in...

Pipes are fine. If you had the stock muffler, you'd know it; cut in half it makes an excellent farm troft for the animals. The stock muffler looks like it was designed to install on a semi.

Thanks for everyones help. Found a brand new S.S. flowmaster muffler on craigslist for $40.
O.K. weird part--> flowmasters website says our trucks should have offset input, offset output. My truck has a center input and offset output. What's goign on here? Is this just because the previous owner had a muffler laying around that he used instead of using the proper one?
