Did anyone ever solve this? Mine is doing the same thing. When set to defrost it blows through vent, when set to vent it goes to defrost. The loose foam has been removed from the vent doors, so it's not binding. The motor moves through full swing, just seems like the wrong direction.

Automatic. With mine I found the upper door arm (when looking up from the gas pedal) is binding and not going through full range of motion. I already took the center part of the dash apart and removed all the loose foam pieces, Wich allowed the lower arm (when viewed from gas pedal) to work in its full range of motion. I haven't tried to remove the motor assembly and move the upper a by hand, but it looks like the whole dash has to be removed for this fix.

Ok but if you have a control module, you have an electric motor moving the flaps, just like mine

Yes it does have an electrical module and a electric actuator. But is not automatic HVAC.
