Check the front brake pads one might have come loose and is locking up when you put it in reverse

You will need to locate the problem in the front end. Broken parts? Jackup and turn the wheels by hand. Next disconnect the drive shaft to see if it is in the transfer case. What does it do in drive?

See if you have a lot of slap in your drive shaft, like gears in axle breaking. Front wheel bearings can cause a lot of popping if wheel turned hard left or right. Look for problems in your U joings.

If you can hear cling, clang, clunk it is in the rear axle. If it is drive shaft U-Joints it will vibrate and shake. Can you shake your Drive shaft up and down. If it isn't solid look for what is loose.

If its in the front check the brake pads but it sounds like a differential of transmission probkem. You just need to pin point it
