Default Remote Start

Has anyone installed a remote start on their F150 before? I was wondering how hard it was, and if any splicing into the factory harnesses were involved. Im pretty technical and generally do all of the work on my cars or trucks myself, but didn't really know what was involved.

Thanks.

Well damn, that looks pretty simple. The one i installed in my old Ranger was more involved than that.

a little over simplified i think.

mine had extra connections like tach, hood safety switch, window defrosters, brake switch, lock/unlock, headlight relay, and dome supervision. i also used electronic bypass that doesnt require extra key.

depends on which rs u get.

I bought this one a couple weeks ago:

Look at this on eBay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/172330104007

PREMIUM Ford F-150 Remote Start Complete Kit 2004 2005 2006 2008 Easy Install!

Fantastic kit with excellent instructions! The seller is a remote start/car alarm installer with a storefront. He sent me his cell number and answered the phone a couple times for my questions.

I am a Navy trained electronics tech and it wasn't difficult. I soldered everything, but did not splice. I simply peeled away about 3/8" of each wire's jacket, then tinned both the original section of wire and the new wire, then soldered them together. After that I wrapped each splice in electrical tape (included in the kit), and Krazy Glued the ends of the electrical tape so it couldn't come unraveled. About 12 solder joints in all.

Works great, since the first time I tried it. I love it so far. Range is at least 100 yards (line of sight). The kit I ordered retains the factory alarm, and the new key fobs have lock/unlock/remote start/panic. (I did not have to wire the tach in, it worked fine without it)

Can't say enough good things about it.

that one you bought from ebay is a code alarm remote start unit. It looks like it doesn't include the bypass module so remember that is another $50 on top of that kit.

I also installed a different model code alarm unit (bought from crutchfield), that I am happy with as well.

I added extra features because it had AUX outputs such as activating my heated side mirrors, and turning on my headlights.

Define "bypass module"?

I didn't need to buy anything extra. $150 got me remote start that works perfectly.

The bypass module is that PATS security bypass. It lets the remote start start the truck without the key in the ignition.

I used that one, that is the one that doesn't require an extra PATS key and has extra features that I didn't need, but I got it with a bundle(That module I bought on newer trucks, like 09+, allows the door locks and everything to be controlled over the vehicles databus instead of discrete wires). Cheaper ones you need to store an extra KEY on the bypass module.

Here is a basic BYPASS:

Mine (the one listed above) did not require any storing of a key or anything weird. I soldered it in, and it works.

I just read the auction and it says you don't lose any keys... must mean it includes the bypass. Not sure. All I know is for $150 I have remote start, and still have both my keys, and two new key fobs. (I still have my old fobs too, that still work if needed)
