Default Recommended trailer brake controller?

Looking to add one to my 2006 F150 FX4. Looking for ease of install (plug and play?), ease of use, and looks the most factory. Cost is secondary.

Anyone have a lead on one?

Unfortunately oem weren’t an option for this gen as the dash integration and control is wonderful.

That said, for aftermarket, the Tekonsha P3 is probably the best you’ll find. None will look factory as there is no dash cutout, but it’ll mount down by your right knee.

As far as wiring, I’m honestly not sure. Newer trucks that have a tow package got pre wired for the controller, so it’s easy, but since they didn’t come factory in any 11th gen, you’d probably need to run wires all the way back and wherever else. Maybe YouTube has an instal video?

Im sorry I can’t be of any help with the last part.

thanks I see it for $170 on Amazon, I’ll probably just get that.

I’ll see if I can find install info for my gen truck though before I buy.

that says it works with a 2006 f150 to connect it to the P3? There is a factory plug for this it says.

I don’t believe 11G models were the PITA the newer non-tow package models are.

You have the 4/7-pin out back? Plug in the TBC and go. Maybe you want the fuses for the reverse lights and trailer battery charge like my ‘03 had in the glovebox, but those aren’t necessary to get started.

My old ‘08 had the tow package. I didn’t know about TBCs back then and all I towed was a UHaul trailer for the cousin, so only the 4-pin was needed. Everything else was ready if needed.

I have the tekonsha Primus IQ brake fontoller in my truck.
Look up under your dash by the column and there's a plug you just need an adapter harness to make it plug and play.
This is the one I used
Tekonsha 3035-P Brake Control...
Amazon Amazon
So I know that one fits the f150, you just need to make sure it works with whatever controller you pick.
I just stick mine to the bottom of the dash with industrial Velcro.

I just stuck mine between the drivers seat and center console, worked great. unplugged when done. Don't forget the fuses and relay needed.

I got the install directions and the vehicle specific harness. It says since I have the factory tow package with the 7 pin connector to just mount the unit and hook it up to the vehicle harness under the dash. Nothing about relays or fuses.
