Rear Locker

Default Rear Locker

Has anyone on hear had installed a rear locking differential on there own? How hard would it be?

it depends on skill level and your tools it's really pretty simple the specialty tools you'll need are a dial indicating in-lbs torque wrench a click- type torque wrench up to 100 ft-lbs and shim punch, if you are going to do it i would suggest a new crush washer for the pinion pre-load, and you can make a tool to hold the pinion flange out of flat or angle iron just drill some holes to put the drive-shaft bolts through to hold it while you loosen or tighten the pinion flange nut

i would much rather have a locker than this limited slip stuff. so if you do it take lots of pictures so i can copy you.

if you check your diff tags if the one on the left has an L preceeding the part # you have a factory locking diff

I've had great sucess with powertrax. They're made by richmond gear and their automatic lockers engage and disengage very well as long as you take care when you drive. Make sure you're comfortable with checking and adjusting gear mesh and have fun.

Maybe things have changed, but when I was looking for lockers, they didn't make lockers for the 9.75 rearend. All that were made were Limited Slips. Hence the question on what size engine do you have, size engine, etc. etc.?.....

They make a Detroit and an ARB. You can find them on ringpinion.com
