Default Random no start

I have a 2005 F150, 2wd with 5.4. Sometimes when trying to start the the engine, the only thing that occurs is the instrument panel powers up as it should and nothing else-starter doesn't turn or click, just the audible chime as it would normally when you start it. I try turning key back and forth, check shifter to make sure it's in park... Eventually it starts.
I did replace the ignition switch (not the key cylinder) thinking that my be the culprit but I have the same problem.

I have one other issue which is electrical too. The windows do not operate until the driver door is shut. From any of the door switches. A year ago I had cleaned the contacts of the driver door switch and when this problem started I went ahead and replaced the driver door switch. I mention this because it's electrical in nature and didn't know if it may be something linking the two.

Sounds like the starter is on its way out. They will occasionally lock up until it movies a fraction of an inch.

If you ever can't get it to start, hit the starter with a hammer. Its a temporary fix but better than being stranded.

Clean battery cable and fully charge the battery. Then take it and have the parts store test the starter/charger system and codes.

For your windows. Check the wires inside the boot that gos from the door to the cab. More than likely you'll find a wire or two that are about to break in half. Fix them up and see if that helps.

A weak battery can do the body module a whole lot of misfortune and misapplications causing bad things to those systems and operation.

Its just a temporary problem though, if the battery was weak the truck wouldn't start right?

Problem resolved! Thanks IceFishnFool - well I finally took the time to check (because they finally stopped working altogether) and I did find the problem where you suggested, in the boot that goes from the door to the body of the truck (A-pillar?). First determined that the power wasn't getting to the switches (found additional/good info and diagram here https://www.f150forum.com/f4/power-w...roblem-254799/). Then I pulled the boot back and there was the problem: 2 wires completely severed, one hanging on by two strands and a forth with 2 cuts in the insulation.
Thanks again.

Problem resolved. Thanks IceFishnFool. Well I finally took the time to investigate further (because the windows stopped working comletely) I pulled the boot back and found the problem as you suggested. Two wires severed, one hanging on by a couple of strands and a fourth had the insulation cut.
