Default Radio upgrade

Just bought an 08 fx4, wondering if there is a factory upgrade to the radio head unit so that I can have Bluetooth for phone and a USB for iPod. Had 2010 focus previously that had that set up and would love to keep the stock look.

Anybody done this before or heard of it being done?

Understand pred for stock. but if you buy the right trim kit and istall kit, and a decent ‘double din’ sized head unit, you’ll get what you want plus so much more; and can achieve a nice clean install look for not a lot of money.

Done with a wiring adaptor plug/harness, you’ll be able to swap back in factory head unit at any time in about 15 mins and be back to total stock. But you probably won’t want to go back (unless possibly to sell truck someday).

You’ll love an upgrade whichever route you go.

my only concern is losing the steering wheel controls really (ie volume/track/seek). I used to always have aftermarket headunits in my vehicles but then i had factory bluetooth with voice control and that was the best thing ever.

Get a Maestro ADS-MSW to retain your steeing wheel controls.

That's what it is designed for. I have one in my 2004 Lariat running a Kenwoox DDX896S

Sounds good, thanks for your help/info. Oh, one more thing. How does the bluetooth for phone work? Is it voice activated like the newer cars? On my focus i just pushed the "phone" buttom and said "call ...blank..."

Crutchfield sells steering wheel interface kits for most of their aftermarket head units.
They might have a solution that interfaces with your stock head unit but it depends on which one you have. It's probably better bang for the buck to put a newer unit in though.

Most of the aftermarket stereos that have Bluetooth come with a mic for voice activation.

Our son sold me his 2008 2WD Lariat in 2016 with a grandchild broken CD/radio. I wanted basic and plain to look like a truck radio; Crutchfield had a Blaupunkt that met my desires. Their steering wheel control works well. I've had no trouble at all. The only thing it doesn't have is the satellite radio included in the OE 6 CD unit. Bluetooth works perfectly with the 3 phones I've owned.. I might want better phone integration; Android Auto was to new to be reasonably priced then. The Apple equivalent ... similar.

Service from Crutchfield is SUPERB. You might beat their price, but not the broad knowledge and customer service.
