Default Instrument cluster

Hello, I am a new F150 owner, I have an 05 XLT. At this time the only gauge that works is the temp gauge, I was told by the local auto parts store that the instrument cluster could not be changed out with one from a salvage yard. Is this correct or is there a cheap route to get it fixed? Thank you

Incorrect on their part. You should be able to swap another XLT cluster right in. No need for a PATS reflash in these, if memory serves correct.

You could also get an FX2 cluster (or I guess FX4 with manual AC controls) and go to town for a different look.

Did you buy it this way or did the gauges all of a sudden fail? Was any other work or changes being made before they failed?

Them not working was actually my fault, I wanted to put white face gauges in and it all went bad from there

I’m guessing you broke the stepper motors for the gauges. You can swap clusters. Keep it in the 04-06 range. 07-08 have TPMS and you’ll end up with a warning light constantly on.

have you put the original back in yet ?

if yes, you might take it apart again and try wiggling the plug connection (at cluster) and see if they spring to life with adjustment.

These are notorious for developing gremlins after being removed/replaced for any reason. Most often issues seems to be the “brake light” becoming on or intermittently.

Ok, I tried a cluster from an 07, and yes the tpms light came on which I can live with, however, my windows wouldn't go up and down. Any thoughts?

jiggle the plug that connects the dash to the main wire harness seems that will stop your windows and most times the radio also
