Push Button Start
I know some guys on www.dakots-durango.com have done writeups on how to do it, I will see If I can find one for you
I like the way it looks. At least I know now that they don't entirely do away iwth the key. I think it looks pretty good. I think I would like to do away with the key entirely. I wonder if they make a kit so to speak for the Ford's?
OH the possibilities,
OH the possibilities,
There is a guy on another site who did a real nice write up on this.
I just sent him a PM asking if it was ok to copy his post and repost it here, so hopefully he will say its OK and I will post it up.

I guess I was thinking I could just use the keypad to enter and then flip a switch and hit the PB and off I go.
I did not realize I had a chipped key, Ty. I knew my Expedition did, what a pain that was. A new key was outrageous.
So what is the deal with the remote start? Does it require a module? Do you have to leave the key in it? I might consider hiding the key under the dash to defeat that inhibitor.
See, I need to add about three things to my truck for comforts, and I was thinking I would take it all apart at once and do it all together.

I seen that post, he did a great job and it looks really good too. He installed the red push start button, round btw, between the reverse sensor cancel and cigarette lighter. As I remember he has an aftermarket remote start and has it tied in with that. I think he said once it's started it runs for the timed setting the remote starter is set to.
One thing I learned about the pats system is once the vehicle is started the pats key isn't really needed. What I mean here is, I have a steel key (plain old flat key) when I start my truck with my remote start I can insert the steel key and drive it. So one nice thing about adding the button is that you could lighten the load in your pocket and get rid of the big *** key. Here was an old post I did

I also have a remote starter and decided to try one more thing. After starting the truck with the remote starter I inserted the steel (non pats) key in and turned it to run without holding the pats key up to it. It worked as well.
So the useless information from my findings is once the truck is started the pats part of the key does nothing from what I can tell.
