Default Problems starting

Well im picking up a 04 crew cab within next couple weeks with the 5.4 but it doesn't start. previous owner believes its the starter. plugs were just done. also has new battery. no check engine light. i actually know the owner and i've borrowed this truck before so i know it was running atleast 3 weeks ago. it also has expired tags so he doesnt drive it that often if at all. no leaks or anything broken visually around truck.

PO said it would start today, sit for few hours or till next day and would start right up. when the starter goes can it go in and out randomly? im going to check few things here in next couple days and would appreciate any recommendations on what i can check. i do plan on taking starter off and running up to Autozone for testing.

If it won't start... Peck on the starter with a hammer, Lightly.. Don't get too crazy. If it starts then... The starter is bad.

well tight fit trying to hit starter under truck but hit few times, doesnt even crank. im guessing its still a possibility. relay's have all been checked and are good.

my buddy bought truck over 4 years ago and has not been replaced since he purchased. its pretty damn rusty so maybe PO never replaced either and this is factory one. going to take it off Friday and run it to Autozone for testing. if its bad ill just pick up a new one while im there.

If its as rusty as you said ...it could be cables or connection problem.. clean and replace cables/wires as required.

i will clean them to. found on another site someone had similar problems and it was there Fuel Pump Driver Module. is there any chance that is my issue? only thing they didnt mention is if it prevented cranking.

You can check your fpdm its just under the bed near where your spare would be. I had to replace mine when it was 'chuggin' on startup. Check backside for wear. And if you replace get a doorman one i have had no problems. I had a thread a while back i dunno what link is though. And add a little rv silicon to seal around base on the frame. Just clean connections good and rub with dialectic. Quick fix.

Also could be starter/alt issue. Redoing Electric cabling is fun just take your time dont rush anything. replace anything thats rusted out. There are diagrams for wiring/volt/gauge on net in pdf files.

A bad FPDM will not prevent your starter from cranking

well 2 people at 2.5hrs got the starter off. damn that was a project. ended up using 3/8 ratchet with 3 extenions and swivel adapter. what a b*tch. the write up i found made it sound so simple. no idea how im gonna get the bolts back in lol.

anyways, took to autozone and test passed which sucks cause we broke off a rusted bolt and nut off electrical hookup side. so guy asked if i wanted to test again.2nd and 3rd test FAIL!! so thats a good thing. went ahead and bought one of their duralast ones since it comes with lifetime warranty.

i know its gonna be a mess trying to put this thing back on. may try and get my buddies impact gun to put at end of these extensions for when i get bolts back in and tightened up some. will know Friday if this thing starts back up now. then i can buy this guys damn truck.
