Default Problems at idle...

After my truck has warmed up sometimes when coming to a stop my truck will lower its idle to about 500 rpm and then starts shaking and making awful noises. Now if I put it in neutral and rev above 1800 rpm or so and let it idle again the problem goes away. I took it to my mechanic and he replaced the cam phaser solenoid and ran some kind of cleaner in my oil and let the truck idle for a good amount of time and now its much better. Today it did it again but it hasn't done it all week. Should I run some more of this cleaner thru my truck again? Ive heard the sludge raises hell on the phasers. Any thoughts?

How many miles are on the engine?

Try cleaning the throttle plate. Remove the throttle body, and clean the backside of carbon buildup. It's commonly reported here on this forum that low idle/rough idle has been atributed to carbon buildup on the throttle body plate. Get a can of throttle body cleaner (don't use carb cleaner, as the throttle body plate has a special coating on it), remove the intake assembly tube from the throttle body, remove the throttle body, and spray the throttle body cleaner on the plate and intake bore.

This topic (throttle body) came up last week. A poster was unsure where it was, so I posted a link in his post with pictures. Use the search, look for "throttle body", and you'll find it.

Just an update guys. I've cleaned the trottle body, MAF sensor, and replaced the phaser selinoid and still have the issue. Only does it warm and seems to happen more often right after an oil change. Also I can get it do it everytime in stop and go traffic. I'm thinking its time to replace the phasers... UGH. Any thoughts?

About 30k ago... the only thing I haven't checked was for a vacuum leak. I've tried everything else outside of changing the cam phasers. Irs driving me nuts. When its really acting up( every time I come to a complete stop) the truck smells like its running rich. I haven't replaced my coils. Could that be a culprit? Somebody also told me it could be my cats or o2 sensor.

i had a 2000 mustang that did the exact same thing. i would have to put in nuetral to make it stop at a red light. i cleaned the throttle body and all same things you did but i finally replaced all the plugs and that solved it. my machanic told me it was misfireing in two cylenders

As I stated I have changed all the plugs but haven't changed the COPs. Could that be the culprit? Im going to get in scanned tomorrow and will post the codes. Could a plugged cat be the problem?
