Default Possible First F150

Hello Everyone,
I have been browsing around here for quite some time and have finally stumbled upon my first chance at an F150, and am curious to see what you veterans think of it before I jump at this opportunity. I am rather particular with my trucks and this one seems to meet the options I was looking for.
Here is the link first of all:

http://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/259873

I have had several conversations with the man and he swears by his meticulous maintenance and care for this truck.

First, he says he just replaced the spark plugs, but how can I check to be sure?
And, I plan on keeping the truck for probably 4-5 years, and putting a decent amount of miles on it in that time. Is 109k too many, even if it was maintained well?

Besides those few specific questions, I am mostly just looking for advice and things to look for when driving this specific year/type/mileage of truck or if it is even worth going to look at/drive. I know the cam phaser tick is something to look for, or hear rather, with the ticking noise, but anything else? (I live in the middle of nowhere so I must drive to anything I want to see)

Thank you all very much, I really appreciate it.

Logan from WYO

P.S. One last thing, this truck (unlike almost all others I've looked at) does not have the flow through console, can I add a black XLT console easily?

Looks clean and is a single owner so chances are its in good shape. Ask for maintenance records. Ask about the fuel pump and and filter. Known issues with these trucks. Good luck brother. Hope to see ya on here soon with your soon to be F150

I kinda agree, I paid 17,900 for an 08 crewcab WITH the flow thru console, toolbox and rails, bedliner, chrome package, and 95k miles......04 and 05 are the ones with the most problems, but that certainly doesn't mean you cannot find a good one. BUT if you trust the seller, that means a lot too......

If you are interested, take it on a good test drive, get the temp on the engine up to good operating temp, then listen to the engine at idle, if it sounds like a diesel......run away......quickly....

Also, I see you're in a snowy area, I'd check really well for salt corrosion on the underside, could be a nightmare with all the electronic items under these trucks.

Not to be discouraging, just some things to check out from someone who bought a dud before due to not doing my research.

Good luck!

I'd say the price is between fair and slightly high for that truck. I paid 19k for my 08 SCAB STX 4X4, then again it had 40K when I bought it in Feb, which was remarkably low.

Everyone here is right on with their advice. Just do your research. The truck has seen snow, so it has seen salt, calcium, and sand. Question is, is it undercoated? That can be a big deciding factor into the price.

Check maintenance records, and for the love of god CarFax the thing. It is a bit pricy, but trust me, it is much better the finding out later the front end was rebuilt (almost bought a Ranger before I found out it was totaled because of it)

Let the truck run before you drive it. Start it, pop the hood, and listen. Make sure the belts aren't worn down as well. Knocking sound? Run far far away from it.

As for your console question. Check out EBay for used consoles. All you would have to do is remove the center seat and install the console with new hardware. The only tricky part is the wiring for the 12v outlet. And if you can't find the information on this forum, Google it.

Good luck!

Take the coil off and look down and check the tip of the plug. If its painted white or sometimes purple then they are the original plugs. Good luck with the truck.

Looks like a nice truck. I just bought an '06 SCAB FX4 last week here in Utah. 82,xxx miles, clean title. Paid $14k from a private party. Use NADA to look up the book price on it. That is what the banks uses for their reference too.

Looked it up on nada.com for a value of what was listed. Looks like the clean trade in value is 11,700 and clean retail is 14,800. I would ask if he has any maintenece records and go from there. I would try to work as close to that 11-12k mark as you can that way if you were to trade it in in the next year or so you would be good. But you said you'll keep it for 5 years so I'd just try to work him down as much as possible.

The big things I'm looking for are Supercrew and the FX4 trim, and I love little things like the heated/signal mirrors, and the parking sensors. But I am also in no hurry at all if this isn't a great deal.
I just saw this for what I thought was a good price if he says it's as clean as it is. If I could get this for 12k would it be a good deal? Am I better off waiting for a better one that I could get for a little more, maybe 13-14?
