Default Is it possible??????

OK, I want to know if it is possible to install a factory navigation radio in a 04 F150? Six months ago I contacted my friend that works at the ford dealer and he gave me the phone number to united radio in ny, they have the ford contract on all the radio work. I called them and they said that it could be done and gave me the ford part# to order. Well I checked on the price and it was $1500.00! So I have been waiting and saving, and lost the ford part#. So I called united radio back up this week and they told me that there was no way possible that the radio would work in my truck!!!!! Help Please!!!!

Thanks for the link!!!!
So, I just need to look for a nav unit on ebay without sync and without a subwoofer plug? Then purchase a nav antenna? Sounds too good to be true. Also if the unit I find has the mercury splash screen, it can be programmed to have the ford splash screen? I used to be a tech at a ford dealer for 5 years, I however took a state job a little over three years ago just when the sync thing was just kicking off. I know my way around a shop and I am not afraid of wiring. The people at united radio were saying the nav radios were multiplexed with other modules on the truck and my 04 did not have this system. I understand that, I guess my question is are all the non sync radios stand alone radios like they all used to be???

There's no Nav shown on my wiring diagrams (alldatadiy.com for my 06) but as far as I know, all of the standard (CD, CD6, etc) are stand alone at least through 08. The only canbus communication is between the head units and the Auxiliary inputs (Sirius or RSE)

I dont know, maybe the people at united radio thought I wanted to add sync as well??? All I want is an in dash nav unit that looks like the factory one. I really dont care about all the bells & whistles that the aftermarket offers.

There are a few companies now that actually make vehicle specific Nav replacements. I don't have any personal experience with them, but it may save you a substantial amount: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...p+Trucks-.html

You could spend a lot less money on a good aftermarket standalone unit or get it for your phone. I used Verizon VZNavigator with about 98% success rate as long as I had signal. The maps were all as up to date as they could be. I have a Droid and use the Nav program on there with as much success and a bit more due to the satellite images if i'm not sure what to look for. A factory unit is expensive and can still fail at which point you will need to spend that much again. Not to mention the maps probably won't be up to date and a new DVD for updated maps will cost you a chunk of change. I know they are slick and in dash but it really isn't worth the money in the long run with cheaper and just as quality options.

Nothing like a $200 Garmin ............ I can move it from vehicle to vehicle. They work like a charm.

I bought a used Double DIN Pioneer AVIC D2 unit last year off of EBay. Paid $200.00 for it, then had to buy the GPS antenna, double din bracket for Ford's, and Ford wiring harness to adapt the Pioneer to Ford's plug (I hate cutting and splicing). This unit works great! I have the backup camera installed, the tunes are great, and the GPS works fantastic. My only gripe is that I have to load an East or West disc into it for the maps. The newr Pioneer units now have the maps installed via SD memory card, eliminating the need for the CD's now.

No way would I pay $1500.00 for a Factory unit (or any other radio/nav unit).
Stay away from "off brand" foreign radios. Buy a name brand unit.
