Default Overdrive Slip

Hi Guys,
I have a 2004 with the 5.4l 3v and I notice when I am in cruise control and the truck needs to downshift lets say if you are going up a hill at about 100km per hour (60mph) the trans seams to slip a little then the truck down shifts. My question, is it too late for just a trans flush, and do I need major repair at this point. Or is there something else I can do to help fix this problem.

thanks,

Ivan

How many miles are on it? Do you tow alot? Does it have bigger tires? Is the fluid brown or smell burnt? I always use the od button to turn mine off if it tries to act retarded.

there would be around 100000 miles on the truck. do not tow at all (will haul my snowmobile on the back) no smell of burnt transmission fluid, stock tires. I have been also turning off the OD before I get to hills and whatnot but it is annoying.

Is this a new problem, a change in the way it is acting? My TC will unlock before it downshifts, could this be what you are feeling?

Probably not your tranny at all but a miss in the engine. Mine was doing the exact same thing, and after alot of research, I decided to change the plugs and coils.
I ordered Champion 7989 plugs, Lisle broken spark plug remover, and new coils from Summit for $450 and got to work. All 8 of my plugs came out intact and was done in an hour.
My truck runs great, and my transmission concerns are gone.

I just bought the truck so I don't know if it's a new problem. I never noticed it when I bought the truck I didn't notice the problem. I don't think that the truck has a miss, but I could be wrong. It only does it in overdrive and it sounds like the bands are slipping until it drops down a gear. There are no codes either. I want to change the plugs and coils any way at some point. I just do not have a lot of money and scared if I put my savings into the plugs then the trans falls out I would be Fu$ked. Sorry, what is the TC? ( transfer case?)
Thanks for the replies!

My understanding is that in 2004 when the new body style came out they introduced the 3v 5.4l engine.

I didnt have any codes or feel a miss at all unless in OD and trying to accelerate. It is a very common problem, and it is a plug and coil issue. Your trans is surely just fine.
