Default Outside temp sensor bad

My exterior temp registers likw 71 degrees when its really 84 for about 5 miles before it comes up to about where the true ambient temp is. I'm running an 04 Lariat 5.43V. My 02 Explorer is dead and always has been. So I'm guessing the temp sensor must be shot.

Anyone know where it is? Any special notes on replacement much appreciated!

The outside temp sensor is located in front of your radiator...right by your hood latch. clean if off it mite have bugs and crap on it.

If you leave your truck in the shade, it would do this. Also any kind of water that might be on the sensor would cause it to give false readings.

Outside temp sensor bad-image-3869544691.jpg

Ok found it removed it and cleaned it. Dialectic grease was still present but I wiped clean and added new. We shall see if cleaning helped it.

What is the sensor below it ?

Same thing happened to me with my 5.4xlt. Tried cleaning it and putting dialelectric grease on it didn't work. Just buy a new one from NAPA for under $40.

I replaced it with a new sensor from Ford (Wholesale $27) and it's accurate now.

It's replaced and works....BUT I'm wondering why when the ambient temp is 72 outside when I start the truck it reads like 54 and takes a little while to equal the legit outdoor temp???

Whats that all about??
