Default Out with the old.....

I sold the 2006 XLT Scab and bought a 2005 FX4 Screw; much more versatility.

Only problem is the 4x4 will not engage, no dash light - nothing. I've read through a bunch of threads and all signs point to the solenoid on the firewall behind the battery. I've ordered one from Autovalue $32. Hopefully it's the fix!

I'm also in the process of Plasti Dipping my wheels....

nice truck but you lost 1 1/2 feet of your pickup bed when you bought the screw. and after you change the 4x4 soleniod on the firewall check the 2 check valves on the vacume lines that run too and from the soleniod. they are probly clogged with rust and crap prob safe to change those. you can only get them at ford dealership $7 a piece. i just changed my whole 4x4 engaugeing system. the vac lines to the IWE's, changed both IWE's, change check valves, soleniod and one CV shaft. about $400 in parts i did all the labor. cardboard and concrete who needs a car lift....

If you are getting no lights on the dash, it's an electrical issue. It's not going to be the IWE, although it does not hurt to change it with the updated part that has the rain hood. If the fuses are good, I would replace the actual switch, which do go bad on some trucks.

I changes the solenoid on the firewall this morning, still nothing, no dash light etc.

To recap here is what I;ve done so far;
tried another dash switch,
checked all fuses,
changed solenoid

any suggestions on what i should try next?

I agree. Even if it was the solenoid the light would still function

Get a detailed wiring diagram and start trouble shooting. A subscription to all data pro would be very helpful

I've read that if the truck does not engage in 4x4 the dash light will not come on, so I'm thinking about changing the electric motor on the transfer case. Is this wise? or just a wast of time

Well even if that went bad it should still show the 4x4 light. So I agree with it being a electrical problem.
