Default Oil weights

Hey all this morning when I checked my oil, I noticed on the cap it said 5w-20 oil. I've done all my oil changes myself and I have never used 5w-20 in an enigne that I have owned. Why would Ford make recommondation with such a thin oil? I use 10w-40 in my truck what do you guys use?

Thanks!

Closer tollerances call for thinner oil. Don't worry about the heat issue, I live in Las Vegas area, 100 and crazy is what we call it above the 100 mark, have 188K on my 2002. No problems or consumption, unless its a Beer or two.
