Default Oil??

I suspect that this has been asked a million times.....

I'm coming up on my first oil change since buying the truck. What oil do you guys use/reccomend? I know it calls for 5w20, but what brand are you loyal to?

Don't think I'll go the synthetic route, for now.

Today was the first time I have used synthetic, Mobil 1 5W20, but it the past I just used plain oil. I don't even know what brand it was. LOL

Not to hijack but...They ran out of motorcraft filters, which seems to be a very good one, but instead they used the #VO47 filter. Is that a good filter?

Edit:These threads might help: Here, Here, Here, Here, Here, Here, and Here.

I haven't seen all that much of a difference in filters, but I can say that I ran Motorcrafts alot on my old 1998 stang. I run alot of Fram "tough guards" now. When buying a filter, I mainly look for good construction, and an anti-drainback valve. I know it sounds stupid, but I've actually been impressed with Wal Mart Supertech filters.

We use Amsoil on our Dodge diesel. I should be coming up for one on my truck and I hope to put it in my truck.

Motorcraft filters exhibit some of the best filtering qualities per bobistheoilguy.com. Motorcraft filters are made by Purolator. They are all I run in my car and my truck.

As for oil, keep in mind that Motorcraft OE spec oil is a synthetic blend made by Conoco, same as Conoco Clearblend. Motorcraft semi synthetic is very good oil and contains more synthetic properties than Castrol Syntec. Stick with the Motorcraft Semisynthetic. Its inexpensive and can be had at wal mart if you must go there and is quite inexpensive through the dealer.

I put a dose of Mobil 1 5-20 fully synthetic in my truck last weekend. I got sold on Mobil 1 synthetic after a lot of soul searching (internet research) for a good oil for my Kawasaki Mean Streak that I rode to South Dakota & back on among many other trips. Always worked great for me, but I don't think you could go too wrong with any major brand synthetic in the recommended viscosity. With the synthetic I don't worry about going 4,000-4,500 mi between changes instead of the standard 3,000 either.

Mobil 1 all the way.. Change it every 5k miles. Don't use a cheap filter. Go with the Motorcraft filter.

No doubt on the Motorcraft filter. Grabbed a couple myself at Wally World when I picked up my Mobil 1.

I started running the Quaker State 4X4 synthetic and I found my truck runs a lot smoother

Over a million miles in my years with several vehicles at 200k and Valvoline has not let me down. But I'm betting that my regular changes (5k) has more to do with it. Regardless, I stick with Valvoline and good filters. Motorcraft and Purolator.
