i use a synthetic blend motorcraft oil. i wana say its recommended up to 200k, i could be wrong though. i wouldnt worry about going to a full sythetic oil, especailly since its so expensive. just keep up on your regular oil changes.

Synthetic oil would be great! It won't hurt aything if you start it at 96k.

I'm almost at 94k and I started using full synth at 75k.

I'll tell you how amazing synth oils are. My friend that I ride dirt bikes with races at enduros that are held near him in the Panhandle of Tx. It was 80 miles and they have stations where you fill up on gas. Long story short at the second to last fill station he lost his transmission drain plug. A guy found it after he had taken off. My friend finished the race with an empty trans. Synthetics coat everything and thats why they are so great, their was enough residue to keep the gears lubricated. He filled his tranny back up and still races the bike on that same trans!

The first thing is what is really a synthetic. Most oils marketed today as "synthetic" is actually refined petroleum that is Group III. These aren't truly man made synthetics so don't get too caught up in the marketing of the term synthetic.
Start with looking at your driving style, climate, trip lengths, towing, and what you want your oil change interval to be to pick an oil. Don't look to pick an oil and hope it works into your style. So answer those questions and I can give a better recommendation and the reasoning behind it.

Answer to that would probably be determined by the oil change intervail you plan on doing. If you are doing 3-5k intervail MotorCraft blend will protect you just as well as Mobil 1 at a substancial reduction of cost. If you want the extended oilc ahnge intervail then sure, Mobil 1, Penzoil Platinum are excelelnt choices.

If you are driving under seriously extreme conditions then a good synthetic with a grade IV base stock is appropriate. But 90% of drivers don't get to those extremes.

With modern oil additive packs your answer is best determined by oil change intervail....and even then, get an oil analysis to see exactly where your engine is at with your selection of oil. But any of today's quality dino, blend, or synthetic oils will do what oil is suppose to; lubricate, clean, and cool!

I was using M1 and switched to MotorCraft and change it out every 4k along with MotorCraft filter or Pureolator 1.
