the key has nothing to do with the cluster. the cluster is programmed for certain options and if your truck doesnt have those options then some things wont work right (electronic climate control - ac wont work, keyless entry - dome light, door ajar signal, chime for leaving the lights on or key in the ignition dont come on when you open the door), but the truck will start and run and the gauges will work
