Odometer changed
Can anyone provide me with a phone number or address that I can contact to get my newly aquired cluster's odometer changed to that of my old clusters reading? I called my local Ford dealership in Lewisville Tx; they don't do the service but rather send them out to be done. They send a core and recieve a replacement from this company. THEY WON'T SEND MINE OFF TO GET CHANGED.
I called a place in Arlington Tx that does speedometer and gauge repairs, plus they will change the odometer for a quote of $400.00!!! No way will I pay this.
I want to be "legal" and have the mileage on this new cluster changed to the mileage my old cluster has (my old cluster has 79K, the new cluster is only 24K). The new cluster has a tach which my old cluster does not; reason for the swap.
Anyone have a phone number or address that will flash this replacement cluster? I cannot believe that it's a $400.00 charge to perform.

Anyone? Can someone give me a phone number and/or address that I can use to get the mileage re-programmed into this new cluster?
In Texas?
I've read in hundreds of posts here and on other Ford forums that the cost was around 80 bucks, yet no names/phone numbers/addresses....

I know that their pricing was very reasonable but it is a ways away. Shipping cant cost that much though.

Worked with them before, very reasonable charges for a repair.
I have been wanting to do this swap also, is it just a matter of swapping the clusters? Is the tach feed already there? Thanks.

I'm a firm believer in a "search" tool; however this topic resulted me in reading over 200 posts, a combination of this forum and a couple of others.
My findings:
1) The cluster has to be re-programmed
a) Posters said the mileage, features (including the key security) all
had to be added into the new cluster.
2) The gauges won't work at all
3) The truck won't start
My findings:
The truck will start just fine. The key security is not part of the cluster functions. This information is not stored there.
The gauges will work, as the two wiring harnesses at the top of the cluster are the same for all models.
What won't be correct/working:
1) The mileage. This indeed will need to be re-set if you want to be
"legal".
2) Certain display features. As an example, I have a 2005 STX. The lower
right "information center" displays door ajar, odometer, trip 1 and trip 2
mileage. I cannot expect a cluster from another truck, such as a
lariat or higher model that has temperature readings and the like to
now work in my STX. That won't happen. On the flip side, if you were
to put a STX cluster into a Lariat, you'd loose display features as well.
I was assured by several late model truck owners (2004 to 2008) that they indeed removed a STX cluster (with no tach), and installed a cluster from a truck that did have a tach within it's cluster, and all the guages worked, along with the lights, bells, indicators (hi beam, O/D, turn signals).
This was my findings. I will be installing a Lariat cluster in my STX soon. I will report back how that goes.
If anyone here has first hand experience (meaning you performed the swap), it would be greatly appretiated if you would post your results here for us to learn from. Please, no reports from "others that did this" or "I read somewhere....". I would prefer actual swaps done by you directly.

UPDATE: Called them this morning (Wednesday, 1-21-09). They quoted me $310.00 to change the mileage. Better than $400.00, but still pricey.

I'm posting these updates for any future searches that may come up.
Another update: I called a Ford dealer in Georgia that is known to do this; the service manager said it would be around $150.00 (they send it off), but he also stated that the cluster has to be matched to the trucks key(s). In other words, the truck is not supposed to start unless the new cluster "knows" the keys.
Now I'm back to square one!
