Yeah after watching the video again all the way thru, he said that failures were rare but was giving the diag steps to look into a failed PCM.

So, RockAuto has Motorcraft coils for $35 each or other brands for as low as $18 each.

i can get a set of MSD’s for $200.

What do you recommend?

Lenn,

take a hammer and tap on the cats, make sure you dont hear anything rattling around in there. i know lack of power/sluggish acceleration is a symptom of restricted/clogged cats

I recommend before you start tossing coils at it , to swap #2 and #1 clear codes and see if the DTC follows the suspected bad COP.

^^^ THIS, ------ OR, you could try my redneck shade tree mechanic technique. I questioned a COP recently. Just screwed an OLD spark plug into the cylinder (to keep idle compression on it), plugged the production spark plug into the boot - making sure it made contact with spring, hooked up the harness plug and an alligator clip from cathode to battery ground. Fired her up and knew the answer in an instant.

COP Testing ---
