@Jason Preston Our transmissions have four gears, not five. (Second person that for some reason thought the transmissions have five gears. Wonder why they think that?)

That's what I figured, but I always knew that the TC lockup was it locking up, and not a gear change. (Had a 1994 Cavalier that we had to disable the lockup mode by disconnecting something, because it wouldn't go out of lockup mode. A mechanic showed my brother how to do that.)

Ah, I didn't realize you were using that as an example.

lenn "rocket forward commensurate with how I’d expect for how hard I was pushing the throttle" I had this problem and changing the TB fixed this issue.

I just recently bought an 04 FX4 with 75K miles. When i got it i thought it was a dog with how slow it accelerated through the first two gear, but chaked it up to me not being used to the truck. However after reading this is sounds like i may have a similar issues. When i take off from a dead stop the truck gets up to around 3k RPM's shiftings into second and feels like someone attached a trailer to the truck. If I get in the gas more it feels like the motor finally catches up and finds an extra gear.
