Default no heat!!

04 lariat with climate control.

So my digital thermometer by the odometer decided to start showing 90-120 degrees only the last few days... (its been -20-30 degrees really in WI) So i think its messing with my heat. I cant use the auto setting on the climate control it wont warm up. So I set it to 90 degrees manually and just pick floor or whatever and pick full blast and it still never blows hot air(and yes the truck is all warmed up and should be blowing hot air)..

Do you think that since my outside thermometer is reading such a high temperature that its messing with my inside heat?? I assume if its just the outside air sensor that its pretty cheap.

I have no idea on this one, but it's reasons like this that I'm glad to have the "manual" dial for adjusting the cold/hot adjustment! If it fails, it doesnt involve an expensive module or other electronics.

im guessing its just the heater core.. i called a few dealerships and their techs say the ambient air temp has nothing to do with the inside.. the thermostat seems to work fine all the hoses are warm to the core and the car warms up in normal time. Just barely even warm air coming out

Love my truck but so far the Power mirrors, adjustable pedals, and driver power seat have all stopped working. Now the heat doesnt blow warm and my ambient are reads 90degrees when its really 10. The power seat part sucks if i get someone sitting behind me and i can only change the angle of the backrest because it isnt power.. Thank god the heated seats still work.

My bro has a 05 fx4 f150 and his rear window stopped working..

were having some bad luck.

My 04 had the exact same issue. The outside temperature read incorrectly. At the same time I noticed the climate control temperature setting seemed to be out of whack. I didn't think they were related because all other vehicles I've owned that had auto climate control had a separate cabin temperature sensor.

It appears that our F150's are not like that. After months of living with it, I finally had enough when the temps dropped to -20 degrees the last two days and my "cold" heat just wasn't cutting it. I went to a Ford dealer this morning and got a new Ambient Temperature sensor (part # 5W7Z-12A647-A $47.02). I also asked them about a "cabin temperature sensor". After searching they couldn't find any match so I decided to just replace the ambient temperature sensor.

I went outside and replaced it immediately, got in my truck, started it up and drove away. Immediately it read 50 degrees and over the next 3 minutes it kept dropping until it read the real temperature of 13 degrees. All the while my heat was set to 90 degrees and I noticed that as the outside temp reading started getting lower my heat was getting hotter.

I can definitely say that now my heat is hot again. It's possible there is also a cabin temp sensor that works in conjunction with the ambient sensor. I'm going to check the ford manual to confirm but the ambient definitely made a difference.

Also, because my outside temp was always reading 70+ degrees hotter than it actually was, when I hit auto it would always turn the A/C on. Now that it is back to reading the correct outside temp the A/C no longer comes on...proof that it is tied to the climate control.

Sorry for the really long post but I hope it helps.

I looked over the manual and there is a cabin temp sensor, Ford calls it a "In-Vehicle Temperature Sensor". If changing the ambient temp sensor doesn't make a difference you might want to change the in-vehicle sensor.

It's expensive throwing parts at a problem. Get it diagnosed, and replace the faulty unit.

Might cost you three times the amount of money then if you just took it for a repair. These sites are helpful in some aspect, but when you get 3 different opinions on a problem, it's time to take it to a qualified repair shop.

If his in-dash thermometer is reading incorrectly the ambient temperature sensor is almost certainly to blame. Replacing that is not throwing parts at a problem, it is fixing a known issue. Seeing if that ALSO fixes his heating problem is also not throwing parts at an issue, it is systematically diagnosing a secondary problem.

Furthermore, a $47 part to fix a known problem is a crapload less expensive then paying a dealer to check something you already know is broken.

mickdigler i really appreciate it.. I just found it odd that the couple dealerships i called said the ambient and inside didnt work together but the ambient temp started reading 90 degrees warmer than it was and the heat stopped blowing warm immediately.. haha

Im going tomorrow about a mile away to a ford dealer.. they have a ambient sensor in stock for 47.10 or something they said on the phone right before they were closing on saturday.. The clip is right in the open and should only a minute to snap in.

Ill report back with the news tomorrow!

I wasn't shooting your suggestion down; I hope it is his problem, and that all will be fixed. I have just seen on many forums that everyone "had the same problem" and replaced this or that.

Hopefully, he will get the 47 dollar part, and all will be heat again!

Heat Problem Solved!!! The ambient air sensor fixed the problem. Started displaying correct temp in under a minute.

My driver power seat, power mirrors, and adjustable pedals still dont work but those havem't been working for 6 months now.. I assume its a pinched wire somewhere or something. I'll wait until its warm out to start checking that.. I have installed about 250 full stereos for friends and family through high school and college.. I was very careful when putting mine in on how to route some 4ga power wire through those wiring channels under our carpet.. Ill have to make sure i didnt pinch or cause something to rub. Way too cold to look for it now.. haha.
