Default new guy question

I am new to fords....was always a chevy guy til now, thought i'd give a ford a try. Bought an 05 lariat 4x4 supercrew 5.4 v8. But when it goes into overdrive, sometimes it starts to sputter like it's not getting fuel or something. Step on the throttle a bit, it will move on. no problems at highway speeds. Bought this truck as-is......hoping I haven't made a big mistake here..... doesn't do it so far at any point other than around the 45mph mark. and if you push it on up to 55-60 it doesn't do it. but try to baby it and ease it up to speed, it does this mess.
any thoughts? thanks for helping the new guy!

Spark plugs 100 percent sure. End of story..but to save some money go to pep boys and buy the 8 spring boot kit for $40 and replace them.. See if that works, if not change the plugs (god be with you)

Drove it with overdrive off til I got out on the open roads, did ok. But yes, if it goes into OD at low rpm's(this thing runs a lot lower rpm's than my chevy did) it runs like a three legged dog until you step on the throttle.....then smooths back out. any recommendations for new plugs? and do I need the special ford plug wrench?

I believe it's a 5/8 sparks socket.. Don't hold me to itz but make sure to get the spark plug socket with a 3" built in extension and built in swivel.. Auto zone should stock it. When you start to remove your spark plugs just crack them loose maybe a 1/4 of a turn and put a table spoon at most of marvel mystery oil in the spark plug socket. Give it 15 minutes to soak per plug then easily try and retrieve the plug. Have had good luck with this way. But like I said MAKE SURE you run by pep boys and get new boots and springs, trust me another 10k down the road and it will be doing the same thing if you don't change these as well..
