Default Me Newb

Hello Everyone,
Got a couple of thought’s ran a search and didn’t find any answers so it should not be too tedious I hope.

#1 Got the Alpine CDA-9885 (Awesome iPod interface) and was wondering on which 6x8’s would be a good choice? I listen to all kinds of music and would like a full range speaker that can hit without an amp but if it is required then so be it.

#2 Would definitely like to lift the skirt up a bit the wife (surprisingly) was the one that initiated that mod. Have plenty of friends that have trucks that are lifted none that have done a 06 F-150 FX4 though but I have a friend that is pretty knowledgeable about lifts and I have a pretty good supply of tools but no welding equip. Was j/w if a 6” Pro comp lift could be done at home? Then of course take it somewhere to get the alignment done.

Thank you’s around for the help this site seems to have a lot of knowledge and there is no lack of humor, what a great combination!

Welome to the site. Me personally, I like Memphis speakers HERE but you could stay with what you already got and get some Alpine speakers. I actually have a set of Alpine 6x9's in my 95 Bonneville and they sound good running off the stock head unit.

As far as the lift, I've never done one but from what I've read it can be done at home as other have done there's. Why not go with an 8" Rise lift? That seems to be the most popular.

Actually a 6" is all I would like to do because, from what I heard from my friends is that if you go any higher than a 6", then it will wreak havoc on the universal joints, and I would have to change them out.

jofts can be done at home, most dont do it themselves because they are affraid of taking their truck half appart, and they often cant be without their truck for that long.

Welcome to the site!!

As far as speakers go I like Kicker, JBL, Pioneer, Alpine, Boston Acoustic, and Eclipse. There are many more good ones.

Thanks for all the replies; Triton we share the same taste in audio gear, I am just stuck on which one to go with and I wanted to know from experience what opinons other owners have... WC1 I checked out the memphis site and they look like they are made out of really good material, do you have them installed on your truck?

I was also thinking about using steel wheels for the lift what is everyones thoughts on that? Or should I just put 35's on the 18" stockers?

No but if I was going to build a system those would be what I would use. Doubt you'll find them in Circuit City, Best Buy or Crutchfield. You'll have to go to a good shop to see them. The shop near me has them on display and they sound a lot better than anything else I've heard. Might want to check them out before you buy.

If you're going with a 6" lift only I would put the Pro Comp lift last on my list (I don't like the fact that they use a 6" spacer up front). I'd say Fabtech or the RCD would be your best kits for your truck. Rize also does a 6" lift, but it cost the same amount as the 8" lift so if you were to go with Rize I'd go with the 8" kit.

With a 6" lift you can go with 35's and not have to regear, but with an 8" you'd probably need larger tires (to make it look right) and that would mean regearing would become a necessity. Even with a 6" and 35's you will lose in the power department and may want to regear.
