Default keys

Hey guys new to the forms. Just moved from GM to Ford and traded for a 06 F-150 5.4l When I got the truck the dealer only had one key for it. I know ford wants a arm and leg for a key, a walmart said they could do me one with the code for $50 Anyone know of a cheaper way of getting a key?

if it is a transponder key, have one (or more) cut at home depot for $2. put your transponder key in the steering column near the ign.

I couldn't justify the cost of new keys and labor cost of having new ones mated to the truck for our 08.

cheap way out.... go have regular keys cut on non PATS blanks for 3 bucks, break the chip out of the head of the factory key and tape it to the sensor next to the lock cylinder.

You will defeat the PATS system and make it so anyone who has the VIN number can steal your truck.

But you will save 125 bucks

Find a locksmith with the ability (and software) to initialize another PATS key into the computer. My cost if 95 for the service and 30 dollars a key

Then you will have 2 working keys.

Once you have 2 working keys, you can add additional keys, up to a maximum of 8.

You should have made having 2 keys part of the deal for the truck. I own 5 Fords, and I want three keys with each vehicle, one to keep in the safe for future use if I have lost a key and need to add a replacement.

I got a key off eBay for around $7 shipped and Lowes cut it for free. The key had the chip and I had the two that already worked so I could pair it. I didn't realize a locksmith had programmers also figured it was dealer only. Before I paired it I put it in just to see what would happen. The lights and chime came on like normal but when you turned to the start position the starter did not turn over.

I called around. Locksmiths were far more expensive than the dealer.

I didn't have both keys so it was a lot more expensive.

My cheap non-chip keys are working great!
