I think it's just a blank. You remove it and it and in it's place you can put in a plug for your trailer wiring harness. Mind you I'm just guessing here.

yup, it "secures" the spare tire so crackheads wont pawn your spare for crack.

me, i took that little key thing off. it was starting to get a little rusty and was sticking, and the last thing i want is a rusty lock keeping me from changing a tire.

i'll take a chance on theft. i had my 20 gal air compressor hooked up in my carport for about 3 years with no problems.

It just locks up the spot that you need to stick the tool you use to drop the spare tire down...so yea "secures" it lol

If you are going to keep it in, I would recommened popping it out and spraying it with wd40 or something. I dropped my spare down the other day to check the pressure and to make sure it would come down if I am stuck on the side of the road. Nothing worse than sitting with a flat and can't get your spare tire down.
