I had a guy tell me that I dont really need to jumpstart other cars. He said that the alternators cant handle it and will blow. Is this true?

Unless you're trying to jumpstart a totally dead battery (virtual short) for a very extended amount of time - not an issue.

Just be sure to have things connected properly and ensure proper personal protection - exploding batteries are really bad news.

That is what I was thinking. He was a cop and he said that all the crown vics were not allowed to jump start cars because of the alternators messing up in the process. He wasnt sure about the f150s, but he said dont chance it.

I have jumpstarted lots of things with my truck, and its fine for it. the only time you run a risk is when you have things hooked up improperly.

red to red and black to black is easier, and you can just ground the black/neg to the frame or a grounded metal surface of the vehicle.

guys, my fraternity does a homecoming float every year. the floats are actually old buses that we cut adn build on top of, like the size of the rose bowl parade. when i was driving the float to the parade and back to the float site, i used my truck numerous times to jump a bus. it was fine after that, maybe though thats why my battery died after 30k. its fine to jump, and ive jumped other cars before with no hitch
