Default Jumping generations

I went from a 1990 F150 xlt reg cab 5.0 4 sd manual to a 2005 F150 xl ext cab 4 door 4.6 4 sd auto. This is a huge jump in technology and for my wallet. What are some things, good and bad, I should look out for?!

The 4.6 is a pretty bullet proof motor. The engine has been around since Methuselah. Lots of them available. Lacks power, but that's the biggest we can get in stx or xl's.
Stay AWAY from non Motorcraft oil filters.
Check the fuel pump driver module (fpdm)
Do regular fluid changes
Do the Gotts mod
clean the maf with maf cleaner only

Thanks for the advise! These new engines are a new effing breed. I could swap a 90s engine like nothing. I guess with anything it takes time. What is the gotts mod?

Did you keep the 90? Looks like a clean vehicle for a toy

I do for the moment. Engine is a little rough, great towing power, very little rust for being a 90.

Youre going to love it. I always told myself Id rather have an older truck... then I test drove a few newer ones. It doesnt take much to get spoiled.
