Default Iwe ?

I was doing 50 mph and let my foot off the gas when I heard grinding, I slowed down to about 30 and heard a pop and the grinding stopped. Is this the iwe gone bad. It's not the first time it's happened but it has been a while since it's done it ?

Are you sure you heard it in the front? Did you have any accompanying vibration or other odd feeling that wasn't normal?

passenger side was replaced several months ago and I don't know why I didn't do both at the same time.

Thanks techrep I'll be ordering one today. Is it something one can do if mechanically inclined or would it be better to let a shop do it ?

I'd let a shop do it, I supply these to about a dozen small garages, and it's surprising how frequently they have to order another because they broke it when installing it....

Very easy to replace with common hand tools...watch a Video of the replacement process and see If you want to tackle it...and Dorman brand is just as good as any other...ensure your IWE solenoid has the up-dated rain hood on it...this will prevent water from getting into the system..

I don't want to start a new thread but I think I have IWE problems. When backing out of my driveway, I'll hear a solid pop in the front end when coming to a stop to pull forward. Same thing happens traveling in the opposite direction. It varies from passenger to driver. It will also happen while coming to a slow stop at a stop sign. It seems to be getting worse but I do not have the grinding people complain about--just a solid pop here and there. I doubt it's my CV axles as they don not make the popping noise while in 4x4 turning.
I've lifted it in the air and spun the wheels with the motor on and off. Off the CV spins with the wheel and motor on, the CV is stationary... no popping or grinding noise heard while doing so either. Also, it seems the 4x4 is hard to unlock after engaging it. I have to throw it in neutral now to get it to unlock from 4 high.

Nothing has been done to the 4x4 sstem since I've owned it and she has 123K miles. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
