Nathan I have the EXACT same problem !! I cannot figure out WTH it is either. I pulled up to a gas station and very slowly hit the cement parking thing and I heard the POP. I've checked everything that could be loose and still can't find where it's coming from but it's the same thing you have. Traveling I don't hear it, only coming to a stop or taking off, or taking a slow turn into my driveway or store etc.

I don't have one of those go-pro cameras so I can't really tell but I know for sure it's something on the front end

Start figuring it out is all I can say. I now have the whining noise at 25+ mph.

I think I have now eaten the IWE on the passenger slap up. Called the local ford dealer and asked for a price to change them both.... yeah, 1500 bucks. So I told the gentleman to politely go f himself.

I looked up some of the parts on amazon and will go that route before I give away that kind of money for something not so difficult.
Amazon.com: Dorman 600-105 4WD Locking Hub Actuator: Automotive Amazon.com: Dorman 600-105 4WD Locking Hub Actuator: Automotive

If I were you, I'd change this part
Amazon.com: Dorman 600-400 4WD Vacuum and Emissions Purge Solenoid: Automotive Amazon.com: Dorman 600-400 4WD Vacuum and Emissions Purge Solenoid: Automotive
ASAP and see if it will fix the issue before you end up like me. It seems to be a common failure along with a laundry list of other common problems with our trucks.... Thanks Ford
I've also heard some say it could be the hub/bearings making the noise especially now that I hear a whining noise around 25+ mph but once I engage 4wd, the noise goes away. This leaves me to believe the 4wd system is failing somewhere.

I'm having surgery tomorrow and will not have a chance to further investigate the issue but this is all I have to go on as of right now. Oh, I've jacked the truck up with is running and the half shaft/cv axle stays stationary as the tire rotates...

GOOD LUCK I just replaced my hub and IWE and still have the same problem, the driver side grinding sound goes away when I let off the gas so I assume its still vacuum related also replaced the damn solenoid . Im about to just super glue it and leave it on the side of the road

LOL, Maybe you have a bad hose somewhere and it's leaking vacuum?

I sure as hell hope that I can get it all fixed. I've torn this stupid fron end apart so many times now... I too, would like to leave it out on the side of the road an watch it burn!
