It doesn't use Bluetooth. It connects directly to the stock radio and plays through my "satellite radio" source. And I have the data plan to use the features diamondbackjo mentioned. If you opt to get a wifi-only iPad mini, you can buy a mobile hotspot that you plug in via USB in your car. That's an idea I looked into as well.

If you have a data plan with your smart phone you could just have your phone be a hotspo for the iPad.

Just installed mine today. I have only one problem is that I haven't figured out how to control the volume yet. I don't have steering wheel controls and the head unit is tucked away and the remote can't see the sensor. Anyone have any ideas? Here's some pics

Solved by problem. I switched to a aux cable and set the max volume I want on my head unit and I'm able to control the volume with the pandora volume ****

Do you have the unlimited data plan? I have the same issue with AT&T regarding hot spots?

Since the ipad mini will be coming down in price eventually, I was considering buying one and doing a retrofit. Even for the current price, the ipad mini is a better value then all the other in dash head units on the market.
