I have had intermittant problems with my 4WD ( '06, automatic ). When it has been dry, the 4wd doesn't work. No light on the dash, no little "click" from the x-fer case, nothing.

If it rains or I go thru a car wash, it works fine for a day or two. I did a search and found some discussion about cleaning the electrical plug on the x-fer case.

Where is that plug? what is the best way to clean it? Can I get this done with the cave man tools I have or do I need something specail???

now that is weird.

the plug should be on the frontward facing side of the x-fer case. Just go under your truck and you will find it. maybe you need to clean some corrosion off of the connections on the plug.

It could be the shift motor on the transfer case. Might be crapping out on you.

Yea................. I doubt it's the motor. thinking it's gotta be a connection. What do I do?? should I pull off the connector and scrape the contacts with something like an exacto knife or is there a chemical or spray something I can use?????????????

pick up a can of contact cleaner.

is the shift motor possibly getting wet and that's my problem? or is the shift motor inside the case?

I have only used the 4wd a few times. I can't imagine how the shift motor could be worn or damaged.

is there a relay or circuit breaker involved with the shift motor?

It works when it is wet?

Typically I have seen this happen with anything that has a poor connection. Water will conduct so perhaps it is making the connection for you and when it is dry it doesn't work?
