Default idle problem

So I get on my truck a few days a ago and my engine light comes on. So I pull out my programmer and it says Idle Contorl System: Idle RPM lower than expected. recalibrate the tire size and all the other options just to see if that would fix it and it did. Untill today after lunch and it came back on again. What might be the cause?

i got this same thing about 2 weeks ago. i was due for an oil change and air filter cleaning. i did those and got it again. then i thought back to when i had my Chevy Trailblazer, i got it and was instructed on a forum for them to clean my throttle body, and that worked. so i decided to clean my TB for my 150....wow was that sucker dirty....now it idles smoother than ever right at 750-800 rpm

i think mine gets so bad because i have a KN Oil filter. i used to clean it every 3 oil changes, but now im going to do every other change. i usually go 6000 between changes so i will be cleaning it about every year or so.

go easy on oiling the filter. Too much oil on the filter could be part of the problem.

You should be cleaning that K&N filter about every 50 to 60K miles, and not every 3 oil changes. And light on the re-oiling. Even with the frequent cleaning, It would not effect the throttle plate. It's most likely carbon. Clean the throttle body and leave the K&N alone. Follow their directions on their web site.

@ kev and Bucko - sorry for the confusion, I was refering to cleaning the Throttle body every other oil change. I havent re-oiled the filter since i got it. My last K&N on my last vehicle went 75k before re-oiling. i have only put 12000 on this truck since i got it. the oil filter just gets taken it out and vacuumed the leaves and bugs out of it that get sucked in every oil change

No worries on the confusion, it happens...That throttle body must be clean as a whistle if you are cleaning it that often!

You're idling around 7-800 rpm? Mine sits at 500 and I always that it was low. Cleaned my throttle body last week and my truck idles smoother but at the same level...
