neither. go SCT. The toons in those "programmers" generic and canned. You will get more for your money with a set of custom tunes from Fivestar, VMP, Bamachips, or if you are willing to wait for 1847574385 months, Troyer Performance.

Ive been running SCT stuff since 2001, the company's founder personally cut the first chip i ever used in my car and my current tune was a fuel economy guinea pig tune for the 4R70W that one of the guys at SCT emailed me for some testing. My truck is tuned by Starkie at VMP and the 87 economy tune runs quite well.

Do not even look at Hypertech. Their strategies are the about as bad as Jet chips. If you're going to stay stock and can live with not getting the full potential of your truck, go with the Edge. OR for just a little more, you can get a custom tuned Gryphon or SCT x3 from PHP, VMP, 5star, Troyer, etc for the best power, best chance for mileage gains, and safest gains.

i dont think an edge tuner is worth the cost of replacing the transmission!

The Edge strategy isn't what makes transmissions fail, it's the +25 shift frimness and romping around like they stole it that causes failure. Too much of a good thing isn't a good thing. Talk to Bill at PHP, he tunes using both SCT and Edge platforms. There's little difference between the two's transmission strategies.

im quite aware of the programming strategies....read my above post
The issue is the precanned strategy. If they dont increase line pressure at only the point of shift, they will cause premature failure. This is usually the part where I explain that the dude who started SCT invented the 4R70W and wrote programming software for Roush Performance.

We're preaching to another preacher here, I'm glad someone actually knows their stuff

I totally agree custom tuning is far superior even on a stock truck. The canned tunes have a lot of room for improvement. Hence my previous comment strongly leaning to custom tuning. The "living with not the full potential" part implies a lot about canned tunes on longevity etc.
It seems like lately every time I suggest custom tuning for a stock truck, I get flamed because most don't understand that a stock truck can benefit greatly with custom tunes over canned.

I don't want my edge to hurt my transmission, i guess there is a lot to learn about programmers.. I can't imagine having my firmness up to +25, but i have mine set at level 2 with shift firmness +5 for 1-2, 2-3 and +3 at 3-4. I will be alright for now right, i do want to upgrade to gryphon but i have a trip to myrtle beach and i can't spend the money on it right now...
