HID's and Auto Headlights? Problems down the road?
I just installed an HID kit low only. No relay. My wife loves the auto on/off feature but Im worried about at night (with auto on) when you turn the key forward the lights come on and then when you turn over the engine they turn off again and back on once started.
Does anyone here have HID and running auto headlights? Have you encountered any problems?

I have heard alot of people disabling their auto headlights that have HID's. IDK, If it starts to effect them, I'm sure they have a warranty on them- just swap out parts and then disable it.
I'm sure someone with ACTUAL experience with this will chime in soon but that's my $.02.

I have hid's on my truck and never take off the auto feature (I too like it ) I have not had any issues thus far. Although I have had the hid's just short of a year now, so as for long term can't really comment on yet.

I have fogs and head lights that stay on auto. No problems so far (about a year)

I was referring to the the automatic operation of the headlights when switched to "automatic" on the headlight switch. I think there is a problem in the system somewhere. The headlights come on by themselves, when the headlight switch is in the "off" position. No other problems with the truck. Thanks!
My HID's work just fine and I use the auto feature. I don't think that it "hurts" them, and I don't really see how it could. When the truck cranks over (starts) the original headlights dim (they use more current than HID's). The HID's don't use as much electricity as the stock bulbs do, and since you're not using a plug to power them (in a relay install, as I did) the voltage drop from the battery is far less then if it were traveling through a maze of wiring like the halogens did. So the dimming you saw with the original equipment was what led people to believe that the voltage drop during crank would hurt the ballasts. The ballasts require only 6v to ignite the bulb, and if you have a healthy battery (generally between 11.5-14.5v) then during crank the drop is only 3-4v. You never drop below the ballasts required voltage to ignite the bulbs, so using the Auto feature (with a good battery) can not hurt the ballasts or bulbs.
