Default Help identify this "tick"

It is the worst on cold start, but still hear it while driving after it warms up. I took it to Ford 3 weeks ago and they said passenger side manifold was cracked and the driver side flange was leaking. I bought both manifolds and had them installed. Noise is still present, maybe a bit worse than before. It has always been loud on cold start, but before I could hear it worse from the passenger side. Now while driving and cold, its worse from the driver.

Any ideas???

sounded like a typical 5.4 to me. noisy injectors. does it get worse when accelerating or is constant?

That is definitely the tell tale sound of an exhaust leak. Inspect the whole exhaust sytem for holes or cracks using soap and water to find where the leak could be at. if it is on the drivers side manifold, it could be that the gasket is no good.

I just had both manifolds replaced within the last week.

do you think anything about where the water was dripping?

I didn't see the water before, but there is more than likely a leak there and for some reason or another I still think there might be a bad gasket on that drivers side

I plan to take back to the muffler shop that installed the manifolds this week. I feel the flange that butts up to the driver side manifold is suspect. It was identified by the stealership as a possible leak. Either way, wanted some second opinions about wether it was exhaust or internal engine noise.

Muffler shop said that these engine are just noisy and there is no leak. Sounds like a leak to me.

Other opinions?

my opinion would be to find another exhaust shop.

yes, these are loud motors, but that sounds like an exhaust leak to me. especially that it goes away when its heated up.

I put rvt on the manifolds where they go into the down pipe. I don't know if it's necessary but I don't have that sound after changing mine... shouldn't be hard to get those nuts off now that they are new and try it?

Water dripping from the exhaust is perfectly normal. It happens in every gasoline engine. If you look carefully, you will see drain holes drilled in the exhaust at various places.

There is a surprising amount of water in exhaust gasses. In our Crown Vic patrol cars, if you let it idle long enough, you will get a cyclic gurgling sound as a part of the mufflers actually fills up with water. Step on the gas and a couple cups of water will shoot out of each tail pipe.
