Headers question
it will sound different because its one less filter to pass through. But as far the truck bein alright with, I don't know. I'm assuming it will throw a CEL, just because the truck is tuned to have 4 cats.
Wow lots of good info here. Thanks a lot fellas. So Schertz would I be ok running those long tubes with no cats? I have also been told eliminating the cats will cause it to run crappy. Thanks again fellas!!!!!!! Lots of good info there, lot less drama than fordf150.net...........

So this motor will respond positive to little backpressure??????? Man everyone is telling me it wont unless theres some sort of forced induction to go along with it. Now I'm confused. Just so we are on the same page, we are talking about the 04 and up 3V motors????????
thats why i said with the right tune, these motors are very touchy with the exhaust issue. believe it or not long tube headers have more backpressure than shorty's. It's not an enormous amount but its there.
thanks as well for all the info. im still a bit indecisive on whether to go with shorty ones and keep the cats or run long tubes without the cats. im not sure if taking off the cat will cause any trouble with the inspection thing. i was actually looking in getting an xpipe that i saw on summit that has a pair of exhaust cutouts on it. any help or advice on anything from the headers or the xpipe i saw would be helpfull. by the way at the same time i get the these things i plan on getting the sct with the intake so its i do plan on tunning it.

you have to understand that with these motors your not gonna get like supercharger horsepower out of doing exhuast. Headers are gonna dramatically change your torque band. Your not gonna lose power or torque, you will gain it. It just might be in a different rpm range than your used to. No matter what with the headers, x-pipe and dual exhaust, the truck is gonna sound great. Removing the cats will cause problems with inspections in most all states. It is also illegal to remove the cats, and can be cited by a DPS officer for running offroad use only equipment on a highway. Its just all up to you on how you wanna go with things.
