if you do a DIDO you wont need an x-pipe because thats how the muffler is built

Default WTF w/ this?

Sorry to join this thread so late, but I just signed up tonight.

I've read this entire thread and have a much better idea now but still hope someone can help me w/ this on my '04 3V FX4. Within the last month I've put on shorty headers, 57-series K&N intake, single 3" cat-back, 2.5" in -3" out Y-pipe at stock single pipe connection, and loaded the 87 rating on my Hypertech Max Energy. First thing I noticed was the truck fell on its face on the low-end (stop light to stop light). Next was a spark knock like nothing I've ever heard; under normal driving conditions, WOT was fine. Like someone was sandblasting the exhaust pipes with buckshot. Not even 93 octane with booster could hold the 87 setting. Called Hypertech (33 days later) and was told I had "too many mods for the programmer, return the truck to stock setting and return the programmer to them before the 30 day return policy expires." So now that option is out the door, I return the truck to stock program, drive to Miami and back, 608.6 miles, still have God-awful spark knock and averaged 16.598 mpg driving the speed limit with the cruise control on. What have I done wrong and what do I need to do to fix it? Scrap the headers, custom tune, both?

I'm there and need some help. Any you can give me is greatly appreciated.

i dont know if anyone else here might have a better answer but my best guess would be to contact troyer performance. i called them to help me decide and finalize on what to get and were great help. the set up you have is not too far different from the one ill be recieving so i dont see why it should be a problem fixing it. i think and it might be best to go with the sct with the custom tunes to accomodate your mods the right way.

Hypertech is crap my friend. You and SCT tuner for that setup. Since you are asking for Troyer here is there stuff:

http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi-bin/ppistore.pl
Phone: 540-965-7126
Troyer Performance, Inc.
980 Valley Rigde Road
Covington, VA 24426

If you are in/near florida I use and would recommend VMP. Here is there stuff:

http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index.php?
Phone hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9AM to 5PM Eastern Time ONLY 321-206-936

see www for address info.

Good luck. Ditch the HyperSH**

Thank you both for the help. Got in touch w/ Brian at EFI Unlimited here in Clearwater, said the same thing. He loaded an SCT custom set-up for towing and economy. Low end is back and spark knock is gone. We'll see how it does w/ the boat. I'll keep the other info in case.

Anyone need a Hypertech paper weight?

Haha I didtched mine after one use, and the program stuck, had to go to ford to have my ecu flashed so it would run correctly again.

ok now for update on the long tube setup i installed. went to glamis this weekend pulling my 16 foot flatbed with 3 quads fifty gallons of gas in gas cans, coolers and a bed full of tents tools and such. The new torque band is right at 1800-3000 and the truck loved every bit of it. Cruise on at 75 and it just hummed the whole way there. I couldnt have asked for a better result. Even had enough ***** at the dunes to pull out a cummins buried to the frame haha. P.S the new posi-lock in the front diff was well worth every penny I paid for it. nothin better than knowin for sure your locked in 4wd
