Default Hail Damage

We had a nasty hail storm last night and my truck got hit.

The truck is still wet from the rain so Im not sure what the extent is but I can feel a few on the hood and Im certain there are more on the roof.

Besides the dents I have a cracked driver side mirror glass, cracked window visors and that tail lamp that is up on the cab in the back is cracked too.

The mirror glass and upper lamp shouldnt be that bad.

Has anyone ever used one of those pop-a-dents or dent-kings?

What is the best way to get those window visors off. I have them over all 4 doors.

Man... I'm sorry to hear about the hail damage. 99% of the time car's are totaled because of it, it's more costly to fix the dents or panels rather than just scrap the car and get a new one. Talk to your insurance about it, rather than taking days of your own time to fix everything ask your adjuster to assess the damage. You may end up with a new vehicle for $X (deductible).

Yah, I just went out to look at it since its starting to dry. The hood and roof is the worst. I dont see hardly any on the sides though so thats good.

I made an appointment with my insurance. Ill just have to pay the $250 and go on with it I guess.

Find a local PDR shop or a guy. They usually do a great job and you will not notice any dents after the job is done. Don't even bother with pop a dent. You can remove the window visors with a heat gun.

the hood is aluminum and is near impossible to remove dents from using paintless dent repair practices. the roof though should be able to be repaired fairly easily.

A trick you can try that works fairly well and at any rate is real cheap to try. A heat gun and dry ice. Carefully heat the area of the dent when nice and hot such as you would have on a really hot summer day place a peice of dry ice on the dent often times this will pop them out.

So do you think they will have to replace the hood completely?

Okay, look at it like this... A repair shop charges ~$50.00/hour labor. A dent takes ~1-1.5 hours (paintless) to fix. Assume you have 200 dents... That's when it is more cost effective to replace the panel/part than repair it.

PDR guys usually charge per panel and not hourly. I doubt that heat gun and dry ice would work on hail dents. It works on larger dents.

The Paintless dent guys can work magic... but I think the hood is a gonner... Time for a new hood or go for a aftermarket ram air hood... since your insurance is paying...
