Grinding Problem
I dont know if this is the right forum, but I get a grinding noise while my truck is in 2WD. When I put it in 4WD I heard a little thud and the grinding stops. I have already replaced the IWE Solenoid and now the problem is worse. Any ideas?

It is probably your 4wd actuators..the teeth that are used to engage the CV shaft may have ground down and cant catch when you flip the 4x4 switch to release the vacuum pressure. You can also check your vacuum lines for moisture. The actuators are 80 bucks apiece from Rock Auto. I might have to change mine as well but for now i just checked my lines and switched to the new solenoid with the cover.

Not difficult at all.

Sometimes but i would just do both as in a month you may hear it again and the other side might have caused it to fail again. I know of a couple guys on the other forum who have changed 1 side, and then a week later bring it back to have the other side changed. I would just be safe and change both that way you dont have to worry about it in the future. (hopefully).

Obviously that is a vast overview of the process but if you have the sockets/wrenches/jack it is well worth the effort and money savings. I should have done this when i installed my lift in May...would have been a ton easier but oh well.
